Sexual Aversion Disorder

The individual with this condition will go to great lengths to avoid genital contact or any form of sexual behaviour and in extreme cases will become violently angry if there is any attempt to force the issue. Always psychological in origin, it can be based around the notion that sexual contact is extremely unhygienic and there will usually be a powerful aversion to even the mention of body-fluids. It can be triggered by rape or forced sexual contact. According to DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Vol. IV) this can sometimes be lifelong. Treatment is normally via intense psychotherapy and sometimes direct sexual therapy is needed.
